  • Copeland was born in Norfolk, Virginia in 1961 and grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia. When he was 6 years old, his father came home with a Fender Jazz Bass, Ampeg guitar amp, Rib microphone and stand and a lead guitar. Copeland was immediately attracted to these instruments and began to teach himself to play in a dark closet where they were kept. Soon after his parents Floyd and Velma Copeland started a gospel group comprised of their 7 children where Tony played Bass and sang lead vocals. He was inspired by  Wes Montgomery,  Jimi Hendrix and Ernie Isley.   In 1982 Hanau Germany he played Bass for R&B group/band “Simplicity” who won the 5th Corps (USAREUR) contest while serving in the Army. After the Army Copeland along with younger brother “Gary” and others formed a show-band called “BIC”. In 1986 he released his first R&B single, My Brother. In 2002 he released gospel album Life Is Worth Living. In 2008 he release  jazz album Panoramic View. In 2011 he released gospel single The Right Way which earned him a EnSound Music Award nomination.   In 2015 Copeland (Tony Guitar Copeland) released the album Waterfalls which was produced by R&B group Confunkshun’ vocalist, writer, and producer, Felton Pilate, while earning an Associate degree in Audio Engineering Technology at Houston Community College where he graduated in 2017. In 2020 he released smooth jazz single, Classic Moments produced by Cory D James along with self-produced R&B cover single We Are One by Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly both on his Danay Records label while earning a Bachelor’s degree in applied administration at the University of Houston-Downtown. In 2022 Copeland released his latest album Love Virus available now on Spotify, Apple Music. Pandora, Amazon and other online music stores.
